Determine influenza by other factors rather than fever!
In fact, there are many cases of influenza having a slight fever only, people tend to not pay attention and lose the timing of visiting a hospital. Because most of the medicines of influenza are to be administered at the early stage of its onset in order to have enough effectiveness, it is important to visit a hospital and get the check-ups as early as possible. When there are symptoms of severe head-ache, severe chills, joint pains etc. other than a fever, you should suspect influenza and visit a hospital at once. And also in the cases where many influenza patients are seen in school or office, or a family member becomes infected with influenza, even if the symptoms other than a fever are light, for the possibility of influenza is very high, you must visit a hospital.
In general, it is known that the high fever term of influenza is about 5days, but if the fever continues longer than that there are possibilities of having disease complication. In the typical symptom of influenza, the rapid rising of the high fever over 38 degrees comes first and it peeks out at around 40 degrees, and it goes down to the normal level in 3 to 5 days. However, in rare cases, the fever may come back again up and to over 38 degrees after it have gone down to 37 degree level. This symptom of fever’s going up and down is called “bimodal fever”, although they may be cases caused depending on usage of antipyretic or anti-influenza medicines, it is likely the case that fever becomes higher again due to the complication caused by pneumonia, middle otitis or etc. If “bimodal fever” is seen, it is advised to pay careful attention as well to the symptoms of the way of coughing, pain of ears or etc., other than a fever.
When a slight fever continues for over 5 days, there is a possibility of developing the complication of septicemia, which has inflammation over the whole body caused by the viruses entered into the body. It is a disease that can sometimes become fatal, and tends to develop when the body is weak. When the fever continues, pay enough attention and do visit the hospital again.
And, in case of type B influenza infection, a slight fever tends to continue. Influenza is classified by types. The major types are type A and type B, two types. In general, it is said that type A causes a high fever of 38 to 40 degrees level, but the fever of type B is only from37 to 38 degrees level. However type B causes the symptoms of the digestive system, such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and etc., when those symptoms are observed, it is advised to suspect type B influenza and visit a hospital.
What’s more, an unlucky case can also happen, like as right after having recovered from type A, being consecutively caught by the other, type B. Since types are different between types A and B, catching one type can’t create immunity to the other type. In one season, infection with both A and B types can happen, it is advised to keep alerted even after you have suffered from one of influenza types.
Influenza has the image that can cause more severe symptom than cold and have a high fever. But in fact, there seems to be also a lot of cases that don’t accompany a high fever, depending on various factors like as one’s constitution, age and the type of influenza etc. In addition, because a high fever and the disease seriousness are not equal, an overall decision making as to the timing when to visit a hospital and etc. has to be done by well considering not only a fever but the other symptoms. Let’s have the correct knowledge and properly cope with influenza.
